How it works

1. Choose your ID photo — one taken on a phone or the file a photo shop gave you.
2. Leave “Fill and crop”. The long side is trimmed to bring the picture to 3:4.
3. Check the preview: a little space above the head and the shoulders in frame is what to aim for.

Frequently asked questions

Why 450 × 600?

It is the size most Japanese web entry sheets ask for — 600 pixels tall by 450 wide. Rikunabi's OpenES names that figure, and some guidance also accepts 560 × 420. Both are the same 3:4 shape, so a picture made at this ratio is usually accepted even where the numbers differ slightly. If the form you are filling in states its own size, follow that.

Can I use the same photo as the printed résumé?

The photograph itself, yes. What differs is how the size is decided. On paper it is a length — 3 × 4 cm — and the resolution matters. On a screen it is the pixel count itself, which is the whole answer. That is why this page never asks for centimetres and never mentions 300 dpi.

Will it lose quality?

Shrinking a large photo to 450 × 600 only discards detail you could not see at that size. Enlarging something already smaller than 450 × 600 always looks soft, so start from the biggest original you have.

Does it find the face and centre it?

No. It crops to 3:4 around the middle of the picture and does not look for a face. In a photograph taken as an ID photo the face is near the middle already, which is enough. If you want the framing just so, crop it to taste first with Crop image and then bring it here.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. Reading it, cropping it and saving it all happen in this browser. A job application photograph identifies you personally, and the safest place for it is the device it is already on.
