Example
Example: a phone photo of a signature, cropped and brought under 20 KB
A signature in blue ballpoint on white paper, photographed with a phone and cropped close: sign.png, 1400 × 520 pixels and several hundred KB. The form wants a JPG of 10 to 20 KB. This page is set to 20 KB and JPG, so there is nothing to choose.
- The PNG is saved as a JPG, anything transparent put on white. The target is 20,000 bytes, so it passes whether the form counts 1,000 or 1,024 bytes to the KB.
- A signature is mostly empty paper, which costs few bytes, so the quality search between 0.40 and 0.92 is usually enough and the 1400 × 520 pixels are kept.
- Were quality 0.40 still over, say at 26,000 bytes, the next try would be 0.83 of the size, 1166 × 433, and the search would run again.
| The form asks | What to do |
|---|---|
| A JPG of 10 to 20 KB | Drop the cropped signature here and check that the size shown is over 10 KB |
| 140 × 60 pixels and 10 to 20 KB | Resize to 140 × 60 first with the image resizer, then compress here |
| A clean white background | Lift the signature off the paper on the transparent signature page, then compress here |
| Over 10 KB, and yours came out under | Crop less tightly or start from a larger photo |
sign.jpg under 20,000 bytes, a dark signature on white, at its 1400 × 520 pixels when the quality search was enough. The size and the pixels are shown next to the file before you upload it.
How it works
- Sign on white paper with a dark pen, photograph or scan it, and crop it close to the signature.
- Drop it here: it is saved as a JPG under 20 KB.
- Download and check the size and the pixels the form asks for before you upload.
Frequently asked questions
- The form says between 10 and 20 KB. Will it be too small?
- A signature photo comes out at most 20 KB, at the highest quality that fits, up to 0.92: one that is already smaller at 0.92 stays that size and is not brought closer to 20 KB. A cropped signature usually lands between 10 and 20 KB. If yours is under 10 KB, crop it less tightly or start from a larger photo.
- The form wants exact pixels, like 140 × 60.
- Crop and resize to those pixels first with the image resizer, then compress here.
- Can I clean up the paper first?
- Yes — the transparent signature page lifts the signature off the paper; for a JPG upload, put it back on white and compress it here.
- Why is my signature saved as a JPG?
- Because the forms ask for one, and a PNG cannot trade quality for bytes. A signature on a transparent background is put on white first, so it does not turn black.
- Will it make my signature smaller?
- Only when quality 0.40 is still over 20,000 bytes: each round then shrinks it by the square root of how far it is over, never below 48 pixels on the longer side. A close-cropped signature usually fits at its own size.
- Is my signature uploaded?
- No. It never leaves your device, which matters for a signature. The free plan handles 3 images per run, 20 MB each and 5 runs a day.
