How it works
- Drop a portrait taken from the front, in even light, with space above the head and around the shoulders.
- Choose White if the wall behind you will not do: a plain white background is what the form asks for.
- Press Make photo. The head is measured from the chin to the top of the hair and scaled to sit in the middle of the allowed range, framed the same way the US 2x2 photo is.
- Download the JPG: 600x600 pixels at 300 dpi, which prints at 2x2 inches (51x51 mm).

- Is the Indian passport photo 2x2 inches?
- Yes, the passport application takes a 2x2 inch (51x51 mm) colour photo on a plain white background, with the face taking up most of the frame and a neutral expression. It is the same frame the United States uses, which is why the two pages make the same file.
- Is this the same as a passport size photo?
- Not quite. In everyday Indian use passport size photo usually means the 35x45 mm print that studios sell for forms and applications, while the passport application itself asks for 2x2 inches. If you need 35x45 mm, use the Schengen setting on the main passport photo page, which is that frame.
- Can I use it for an Indian visa application?
- The online visa application asks for a square photo, at least 350x350 pixels, on a light background, which this file satisfies at 600x600. Upload limits differ by portal; if the form refuses the file for its size, run it through Compress an image first.
- What gets a photo rejected?
- Usually the measurable things: the head too large or too small in the frame, a background that is not plain, shadows, or a photo that is not recent. The size and the head height are what this tool fixes. Take it against a plain white wall in daylight, facing the camera, without a cap or sunglasses.
