Example
Example: a 14 KB signature for a form that wants 20 to 50 KB
signature.jpg, 600 × 200 pixels, weighs about 14 KB, and the application form refuses it: the signature must be between 20 and 50 KB. Settings: At least 20 KB.
- 20 KB is counted as 20 × 1,024 = 20,480 bytes, so the file passes whether the form’s kilobyte is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
- The JPG is first saved again at the highest quality between 0.90 and 1 that stays at or under 20,480 bytes, when that makes it bigger. Its 600 × 200 pixels stay as they are.
- The rest is filled with comment data that every program skips, so the download, signature-20kb.jpg, weighs exactly 20,480 bytes.
| At least | The file comes out at | In KB of 1,000 bytes |
|---|---|---|
| 20 KB | 20,480 bytes | 20.48 KB |
| 30 KB | 30,720 bytes | 30.72 KB |
| 50 KB | 51,200 bytes | 51.2 KB |
| 100 KB | 102,400 bytes | 102.4 KB |
| 200 KB | 204,800 bytes | 204.8 KB |
signature-20kb.jpg: exactly 20,480 bytes, still 600 × 200 pixels and looking just as before, inside the 20–50 KB range and ready to upload. A file that already weighs 20,480 bytes or more is handed back untouched.
How it works
- Drop the photo or signature that is too small for the form.
- Choose the minimum the form asks for.
- Press Increase size and check the size shown before you upload.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it make the picture better?
- No — it cannot add detail that is not there. A JPG is saved again at a higher quality, and if that is still too small, empty comment data that every program ignores fills the rest. The picture looks exactly as before.
- Will the pixels change?
- No. The width and height stay the same, so a photo that already has the pixels the form wants keeps them.
- The form gives a range, like 20 to 50 KB.
- Choose the lower number here; the result stays just above it, well inside the range.
- How big will the file be exactly?
- Exactly the minimum you chose, counted in kilobytes of 1,024 bytes: 20 KB gives 20,480 bytes, 50 KB gives 51,200 bytes. A file that already weighs that much is handed back byte for byte.
- Will my PNG or WebP keep its format?
- A PNG stays a PNG: a text chunk of spaces is added in front of its end and the image data is not touched. WebP, HEIC, GIF and the other formats are saved as a high-quality JPG first, which is what these forms ask for, then grown the same way.
- Is my picture uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser. The free plan handles 3 images per run, 20 MB each and 5 runs a day.
