This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you can even turn off your internet connection before you start.

How it works

  1. Add a picture and choose how many stitches wide and how many yarn colours.
  2. Set your gauge — stitches and rows per 10 cm from your swatch — so the cells match your knitting.
  3. Press Make chart: the PDF has the chart with row and stitch numbers and a key of yarns and counts.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the cells look wider than tall?
Knit stitches are wider than they are tall. Drawing the chart at your gauge — 20 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm, say — keeps a circle round when it is knitted.
How do I read the chart?
From the bottom up, row 1 at the bottom right: right-side rows right to left, wrong-side rows left to right, and every round right to left in the round.
Which yarn colours does it use?
The picture’s own main colours, as many as you choose, each with a letter, a plain name, a colour code and how many stitches it takes.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The chart is made in your browser; the picture never leaves your device.
