Example

Example: a signature drawn with a finger, in ballpoint blue, for a PDF form

On a phone, sign “J. Miller” across the middle of the pad with a finger, about half its width. Pen: Medium; Ink: Blue (ballpoint).

Example: a signature drawn with a finger, in ballpoint blue, for a PDF form
  1. The line thins as the finger speeds up and swells where it slows, between 0.6 and 1.3 times the pen width, as ink does. Undo takes back the last stroke.
  2. Download PNG: the image is trimmed to the ink with a small margin and saved about 1,200 px wide, on a transparent background.
  3. Placed 2 inches wide on a form, 1,200 px is about 600 pixels per inch: sharp in print.

How it works

  1. Sign on the pad with your finger (on a phone), a stylus or the mouse; Undo removes the last stroke.
  2. Choose the pen width and the ink colour.
  3. Download the transparent PNG, trimmed to your signature, or copy it straight into a document.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a neat signature with a mouse?
Sign larger and slower than on paper, in one or two strokes; the line is smoothed as you draw. On a phone or tablet a finger works better, and a stylus best of all.
Why is the background transparent?
So the signature sits on any page like ink, without a white box around it. The PNG is trimmed to the strokes.
Can I make it from my typed name instead?
Yes — the signature generator writes a name in Latin letters in fourteen handwriting styles, and a name in Japanese in a Japanese hand.
Is a signature made here legally valid?
A picture of a signature is an ordinary electronic signature: fine for many everyday documents, e-mails and forms, but not the qualified or advanced electronic signatures some contracts and official filings require. When in doubt, sign by hand or use the signing service the other side asks for.
What size is the PNG?
About 1,200 px across. It is trimmed to the ink with a small margin and scaled to about 1,200 px wide: the “J. Miller” in the example comes out 1200 × 408 px. One drawn across less than about 28 % of the pad’s width stays narrower (20 % of the width: 880 px), and a very wide one keeps more pixels, up to about 1,500.
Does a stylus with pressure work?
Yes. With a stylus that reports pressure, the line follows how hard you press, from 0.4 to 1.6 times the pen width; with a finger or a mouse it follows your speed instead.
Is my signature uploaded?
No. The signature is drawn in your browser and saved straight to your device; nothing is sent anywhere.
