How it works

  1. Add one or more photos.
  2. Pick a look (sepia, faded, warm, cool film or old photo), then the grain, and whether to add darker corners and a light leak.
  3. Select Make it vintage and download the picture.

Frequently asked questions

What do the looks do?
Sepia tones the photo in dark browns, warm browns and cream. Faded lifts the blacks, softens the whites and takes out some colour, like a print left in the sun. Warm gives the photo a golden cast; Cool film turns the shadows blue-green. Old photo is a soft sepia print with scratches, specks of dust, a few hairs and strongly darkened corners.
What are the grain and the light leak?
Grain is the fine, slightly clumped texture of film, strongest in the mid-tones and faint in deep shadows and bright highlights. A light leak is a warm orange glow spilling in from the left edge, as when light got into an old camera. Grain, scratches and dust are drawn the same way every time, so the same photo always gives the same picture.
How is this different from the sepia on the black-and-white page?
That page only changes the tones. Here sepia comes with lifted blacks, softened whites, darker corners and grain, so the photo looks aged rather than just tinted, and the other looks keep some of the colour.
Does it keep the size and transparency?
Yes. The picture keeps the photo’s size (up to 16 megapixels), and a transparent background stays transparent in PNG and WebP. A JPG puts transparent areas on white.
Is my photo uploaded, and what are the free limits?
No. The effect is made in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device, and there is no watermark. The free plan allows 3 photos of up to 20 MB per run and 5 runs a day; Pro removes these limits.
